Overview

WaterWatcher ("we", "us", "our") is operated by WaterWatcher LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We believe in plain language — if anything here is unclear, email us at support@waterwatcher.com.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google — we do not receive your password.

Fishing spots and preferences. We store the fishing locations you add, your delivery schedule preferences, species filters, and any nicknames you give your spots. This is the core data that makes the service work.

Generated reports. We store the fishing reports generated for your account so you can access your history. Reports are private to your account.

Payment information. We do not store your credit card number or payment details. All payment processing is handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment status and your Stripe customer ID.

Usage data. We collect basic usage logs — pages visited, features used, errors encountered — to improve the service. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

How we use your information

  • To generate and deliver fishing reports to your inbox on your chosen schedule
  • To maintain your account and process payments
  • To send transactional emails (reports, billing receipts, password resets)
  • To respond to support requests
  • To improve the service — for example, understanding which locations generate the best reports
  • To send occasional product updates (you can unsubscribe at any time)

What we don't do

  • We do not sell your personal information to any third party, ever
  • We do not use your fishing locations for advertising targeting
  • We do not share your data with data brokers
  • We do not display ads in the product

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate WaterWatcher. Where your fishing location is transmitted to a service, we note that explicitly.

  • Clerk — authentication and user management. Privacy policy
  • Supabase — database hosting. Privacy policy
  • Stripe — payment processing. Privacy policy
  • Resend — email delivery. Privacy policy
  • Anthropic — AI report generation. Your fishing location is sent to Anthropic's API to generate reports. Privacy policy
  • Vercel — website hosting. Privacy policy
  • Google Maps — satellite map imagery displayed on report pages. Your fishing location is sent to Google to render the map. Privacy policy
  • National Weather Service & NOAA — weather forecasts and tide predictions. Your location coordinates are sent to these US government APIs to retrieve conditions data. NWS privacy policy
  • Open-Meteo — international weather data fallback. Your location coordinates may be sent to Open-Meteo when NWS data is unavailable. Terms

Data retention

We retain your account data and report history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data within 7 days. Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of non-transactional emails at any time

Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Children's privacy

WaterWatcher is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us immediately at support@waterwatcher.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll notify you by email and update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
